Growing up in Switzerland, I tend to prefer the Swiss beers. There is nothing special about them though...

I like marzen, bocks, strong ales, pale ales, lambics, all wheat beers, adjuncts, wits, whites, hoppy beers, barely wines, reds, and browns. Just about all ales really.
In the okay area are lagers, Pilsners and stouts.
In the I don't care for area are light beers and porters.
Did I miss any of the major classifications for beers?
Early on and still true today, a few of my early favorites are: Augustiner Helles (larger) Paulaner Salvator (duple bock) Paulaner Hefe Weissen (unfiltered wheat) Chimay (pale ale) Sweetwater Blue (adjunct) Bass Pale Ale Raging Rhino Red Guinness Stout Hoegaarden Belgian White
More recently: Carolina Pumpkin Ale (adjunct) Samuel Adams Blackberry Wit (adjunct) Terrapin Rye Kona Wailua Wheat (wheat beer) My own homemade Honey Wheat Ale

Moved from another thread: TotalLoss wrote: BTW there's a brewery in Alexandria, VA called Shenandoah Brewery that makes a choclate donut flavored stout. Which is the closest thing to heaven that I can imagine. Cool. It sounds like I need to plan a trip up to DC within the next year. On a side note to Lucjan, I had dinner with one of my friends recently, Matthew. I mention Jellyfish to him and he said he had it when he was in Japan. He said it was served raw. It was like eating very, very slimy noodles, which had a chewy, sponginess to it. He didn't like it. So, I'm not rushing to Japan. LOL

The place is called Shenandoah Brewery. I saw it on a Food Network show about donuts. Apparently the place is only open 3 days a week, and has a rotating menu so you never know for sure what brews they'll have on any given day. Here's their website: linkie-poo

Checked out the Shanendoah Brewery site... kind of funny that they give a 10% discount to law enforcement. I see lots of beers I haven't had on that list there fodder. Looks like I need to get to work! I do agree on the Sam Adams Blackberry Wit though. I have had that and it is rather good. Sam Adams Summer Ale is also one of my favorites on tap. Guiness I don't personally care for unless it's part of an Irish Car Bomb.

TotalLoss, I booked marked the URl, so it's on my list of things to do for the next time I'm up in DC. Lucjan, I thought you might have tried most of those already. Glad to hear that you now have something to look forward to. Let me know what you think of them when you get the chance to try them. Not sure what kind of distribution you have in your area. They all should be fairly commonly found. The only one you might have trouble getting is the first one on the list, Augustiner, which I drank when I lived in Munchen (Munich) Germany. Not sure if they export, but if they do it's worth trying. Of course, draft is always better than bottles, or cans.

Yeah coors light isn't very appealing to my either.
Guinness is growing on me though. Just can't have too much of it too fast.

Not a fan of stouts but I do like Guinness for some reason. Maybe it's the nitrogen. Lucjan you should try a Black And Tan if you haven't had one. It's a pint of half Guinness and half Harps, some bars will use Bass for the other half. The bartender will use a spoon or a slow pour when he makes it to allow the two densities to layer and separate.

I was out at my local bar last night looking for Pumpkin Ales to drink. Yes, it's that time of the year. In my opinion, here's how I rate them: Although the Carolina Brew Company did not make their Pumpkin this year. I still rate this as the best pumpkin beer I've had. Blue Moon's pumpkin is good. I liked it. So I'm recommending this one until Carolina brews their pumpkin. I also had Dogfish Head's Punkin Ale, yes, I said punkin. While I liked it, I did not care for the mix of spices. After a while I felt it was to heavy in the taste of spices that it started to overwhelm the pumpkin flavor. If you like beers that are heavy on spices then it's worth a try. I was disappointed to see only two pumpkin beer there. I then moved on to Amber beers. to finish off the night. Nothing worth mentioning there.

I'm with you on Blue Moon's Pumpkin, but I'm unfamiliar with the Carolina Brew Company and I've never had anything by Dogfish Head.
As an aside, was hanging out with some friend's last weekend and one of them had a bunch of large, canned beers called Hurricane. Apparently it's both the company name and the name of the beer. But, anyway, while I typically don't like canned beers at all, this one was actually really, really good. I'd recommend you pick up at least one can and give it a shot.
