I’m working on various new modern units but I was wondering could I use blender to make 3D models of them instead of rotating pictures every 30 degrees for the schemas if that makes sense.

The game doesn't support 3D models. However, just create the model in blender and then batch-export them to PNG automatically!

Of course, you just need the same angles as the game's current units use and a whole bunch of PNG pictures for animations. Don't forget the CC layer!
