I was just wondering, have you thought about different Era's.
Not really more era's at once, but it might be cool to base it in the future, or in the Colonial Era (1600). Maybe the Roman era or something like that.

To me the modern era is just boring, hell I live in it. I play city builders like Anno1602/1503/1701 because I like the era. I played Caesar 3. And I liked them. Sim City however was considered boring by me.

i too enjoy the old coloinize era so i'd definatly have one there

but i think if only one was selected the modern would stand up best

futuristic would be fun, as would a flintsones style caveman era

but these may be alot of graphic work due to the need for different buildings, so to start only one may be best

Well, different eras can be implemented into different scenarios... not only providing maps, but "basic building units", "human units" and so on.

imagine, for example, if AO allowed you to define not only the map, but also different types of mercs and/or ships. this would be almost enough :)

Yes, I was thinking about making the game open as to adding new buildings, structures, etc by the players ;-)

There will be an initial set of buildings which can be extended by you folks.

Regarding Eras:

How about starting with nothing!? There is NO technology or whatsoever; no houses/shelter etc...

So, step-by-step you try to create/invent the basic building blocks that make up modern civilization; working with wood, building wood structures, working with stone etc...

Your goal is to lure people from other towns to your town. The better the infrastructure, income, comfort level etc. of your town, the more people will go there. On the other hand, your competitors are trying to do the same. Also, inventions spread to other towns, so you won't be alone with your invention for long. Unless you can protect it. How fast the invention spreads to other town depends on the distance from your town to the other towns (where on the map you setup your town). The further away, the slower the spread. On the other hand, it takes longer for inventions of other towns to get to your town as well, so this might be a disadvantage. Also, building streets to other towns has an effect on trade - which can be either good/bad - depending on your and the other towns configuration...

Does this make sense? Thumbs up / down?

a little bit age of empires style, but why not.

so far we had no really new ideas... this game needs a concept which will make it different from the millions of rts mpgs u can play online. if i had to make a guess why ao is so successful, id say its the simple concept. not too complex, as one of u said in the forum: easy to learn, hard to master...

i think the sim city idea hasnt been made to a online mpg so far... maybe we should stick to the sim idea and not make it another real time strategy build up like aoe or all the millions of others around...

trading sounds good ;-)

@bolder: correct, let's not do the same as all the big companies. It's plain impossible to compete with the big players - and why make a game that's already out there?

Let's do something different!

i would also like the idea of joint efforts between cities.
let's say that i want to invent something that i really need. maybe i can associate with one or more other players so that we can combine our efforts and get the invention together.

advantage: reduced time/money needed to get the invention working
disadvantage: i don't own the invention. spreading to other cities will be much faster.

Maybe u planig to create something total different... but;)

I would like to have one big town. and in that town everyone will play;)

Maybe some group of players will own one type business or one type resource.

Just imgane... U was planig let say to buy some land in the center of city, but someone else buy it first:)))

WHat about that u could bribe the city government to get cheaper stuff, land and otehr stuff?

Also, I always whanted to play game where the town would be like true.

Lets say some people will be like government people, but they also could have some kind of secret bussness:) Also they would be responsible for selling free land or creating tax and other stuff.

Also some other people like police should folow that goverment wont do such stuff:). (u can also bribe police).

And so on;).

I dont know... just some ideas.

in X-com Interceptor the corperations ask you to do tasks so they are willing to put money into expantion, a few computer investors that aid with general building and devleopments if you complete certain tasks to fufill their infrastructure needs

...and u could bribe street gangs to raid your opponents facilities, or you could bribe companies who are building supply not to send stuff to your enemy (like: i cant buy the marsec [tm] flying suit or that megapol [tm] law pistol that would make my security forces level better because they somehow started hating me and wont sell it...)
