I got a game-developer puzzle about nation names/texts :-D

So let's assume I am making a strategy game with various nations involved. Let's take "Roman Empire", "Gaul" and "Sarmations" for example. So far so good. The names are perfect! However, making sentences is a completely different story. Let's assume I want to say that one nation is attacked by another, so I could do something like:
"{0} is being attacked by {1}."

If we take Gaul, it's fine:
"Gaul is being attacked by {1}."
"{0} is being attacked by Gaul."

If we take "Roman Empire" we have to add the "the":
"The Roman Empire is being attacked by {1}."
"{0} is being attacked by the Roman Empire."
Besides adding the "the" there is both an uppercase ("The") and a lowercase ("the") version.

If we take Sarmantians we need to use the plural form:
"Sarmations ARE being attacked by {1}."
"{0} is being attacked by Sarmations."

For a future version with let's say the United States we have both the "the" plus the plural form:
"The United States ARE being attacked by {1}."
"{0} is being attacked by the United States."

I could of course create several texts depending on plural/singular but then deciding on when adding the "the" is difficult. Let alone translating to other language is a whole new story (won't work).

Another solution is to change the sentences and make it more a statement using the ":", e.g.:
"Attack by: {0}"
"Defense by: {0}"
That works but it doesn't read very fluently. I have a lot of texts and using that work just doesn't work nicely.

Another solution is to standardize the nation names to make them only singular, and use e.g. "* Empire": "Roman Empire", "Sarmation Empire", "Gaul Empire" etc. However, it won't work for the United States: "United States Empire" sounds funny at Best. Also, "Gaul Empire" sounds not correct. Gaul wasn't an empire.

Any good ideas how to solve it? :-D

 Well, in some cases you are mixing subjects. When you say:
Roman Empire you are referring to the Empire. When you say Gaul, you could be referring to either the territory or the people. So what you should say is something that refers to the land or the people and try not to mix them. So it would be:
The Gaul Empire is attacking the Roman Empire
or the Gauls are attacking the Romans.

The United States of America was not formed back during that age that AoC is loosely based on. So you can simply say: Gauls are attacking Americans
or select an American Indian tribe such as the Cherokee. So it would be the Gauls are attacking the Cherokees. Or for land you can say the Roman Empire is attacking the America Territories.

Basically what I'm saying is to solve your dilemma is to choose to use either the names of the lands or the names of the people and don't mix them. That for the most part will solve your grammar issue.

Thanks! Yeah, I guess you are correct using either nation names or people names should fix the problem! I'll probably also add adjective such as "Roman" and "American", i.e. "American Troops" or "Roman Swordsmen" etc.
