When filling in for a player you should abide by these guidelines:

1) It is preferable that you don't fill in for a player that you share games with. Since it's rare to not share games with a "friend" you're filling in for, then:

1a) Play his/her king as you think the player you're filling in for would. Try not to make moves/attacks or use diplomacy that would benefit you and doesn't benefit the on-holiday player either. No gang attacks. If at all possible try to play to maintain the status quo of his/her kingdom until the player returns. Do not start a war with a player that you are already attacking with your own account! However, if you are attacked you may defend/counter attack freely.

2) When communicating with players or making diplomatic decisions, you should be honest and let the players know that you're filling in for the day, weekend, week, etc...

3) Filling in for a Tournament or League game is not permitted. Do not fill in for Tournaments or League games unless a specific rule for that Tournament or League permits it.

4) To void any hassle. Tell a staffer! Get the AoCs Seal of Approval while filling in for your buddy. Conflicts over fill-ins happen... a knowledgeable staff can help to minimize those conflicts.
